Five police officers have been detained over their alleged role in Tuesday's deadly attack on police headquarters and training center in southeastern Paktia province, an official said on Wednesday.

Asadullah Sherzad, commander of the 303rd Spinghar Police Zone, told Pajhwok Afghan News at the site of bombing five policemen had been arrested allegedly for having links to the assailants

"The attackers were allowed at the first check-point, raising questions and suspicion," he said, adding 11 attackers clad in military uniforms carried out the attack.

According to commander, explosives-laden vehicles, three military pickups and one Humvee were used in the terror assaults.

At least 41 people, including the police chief for Paktia, were killed and 235 others received injures in the coordinate attack on the police installations in Gardez on Tuesday.
