Farah's Acting Police Chief Killed In Roadside Blast

Farah's security situation deteriorates as insurgents continue to seize check posts - which has residents worried that the battle will reach Farah city.

Gulbahar Mujahid, Farah's acting police chief, was killed in a roadside mine blast on Saturday night when he was on his way to help security forces in Sayedabad village of Pushtroad district, security officials said Sunday.

The incident occurred when the police Humvee that he was traveling in hit the IED.

"Gulbahar Mujahid was traveling in a tank with other security officials and was killed in a roadside blast," Juma Khan Adil, commander of 606 Ansar Police Unit confirmed.

Ministry of interior said that it will look for a suitable candidate to now lead the Farah police.

Meanwhile, residents of Farah province - in protest against the increase in insecurity in the province - closed their shop doors and held a sit in protest.

"It has been almost 20 days that the war is going on just 7km from Farah city, and if the war is not brought to an end, it is clear that the battle will be taken to the city," said Khair Mohammad Nawrozi a provincial council member.

"The security situation is very bad in Farah, every day we witness the collapse of security check posts and if the situation continues like this there is the possibility that the whole of Farah province will collapse," said a resident.

One resident said he went to the office of the governor to call on him for help but that the governor refused to see him.

Another resident said: "Farah province has been sold to Iran."

In addition, army and police in Farah province on Sunday met to discuss ways to suppress the Taliban in Farah province.

Taliban are said to be very active in the northern parts of Farah province.
