Amazon killed

A female alleged member of the communist group was killed in an encounter in Sibagat, Agusan del Sur around 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Another rebel was also killed in a clash in Surigao City that also wounded two soldiers of 30th infantry Battalion on the same day.

In the Agusan clash, troopers of the Philippine Army's 3rd Special Forces Battalion were conducting combat operation when they encountered around 20 members of the New People's Army (NPA) in Sitio Goshen, Barangay New Tubigon, said Col. Cirsotbal Zaragosa, commander of 401st Infantry Brigade.

The rebels scampered during the firefight that resulted to the killing of a female rebel, whose identity is still unknown.

The slain rebel was brought to the Charlotte funeral parlor in Barangay San Vicente, Sibagat.

Upon the conduct of clearing operation, the troopers were able to recover five backpacks with documents containing high intelligence value.

In the Surigao City clash, government troopers conducting security operations in Sitio Brazil, a remote area of Barangay Mat-i, encountered five rebels around 7:30 p.m.

The 10-minute firefight resulted to the death of a rebel and the recovery of two high-powered firearms. Two soldiers were also wounded.

"These NPAs have been taking advantage of the remote areas. They are there, planning to harass our security forces who are conducting checkpoints in urban areas. With this, we have sent our troops to conduct security operations to pre-empt their planned attacks," said 2nd Lt Jonel Castillo, the civil-military operations officer of 30IB.

"We are calling this group to turn over their wounded to be given medical treatment. The wounded have a right to live," Castillo said.
