Russia increases gas output by 19.3%


Gas production in Russia rose by 19.3 percent to 379 billion cubic meters from January to July in 2010 year-on-year, RIA Novosti news agency reported on Monday.

In July 2010, Russia's gas production rose 0.5 percent month-on-month. Compared to July 2009, gas production rose 5.8 percent, to 43.885 billion cubic meters.

Gazprom, Russia's largest gas producer, increased its output in July by 3.2 percent year-on-year to 33.496 billion cubic meters.

Russia's gas export for seven months of 2010 rose 36 percent to 103.604 billion cubic meters.

Meanwhile, gas export dropped in July by 21.9 percent, down to 11.862 billion cubic meters.

According to the Russian Energy Ministry, in 2009 gas extraction fell by 12.4 percent compared to 2008 and export decreased by 10.3 percent. In 2009, Gazprom decreased its output by 16 percent. In 2010, the gas giant plans to increase production of blue fuel by 12.5 percent, to 519.3 billion cubic meters.
